About the project

Warm, uniform lighting for a boutique supermarket and café in Melbourne's north.

This retail lighting project was completed for Marco Fine Food & Groceries, a boutique supermarket and café in Reservoir, Melbourne.

Originally designed with only downlights, the client found the space too cold and lacking atmosphere. Lucretia Lighting was brought in to provide a full redesign of the lighting layout.

We worked closely with the interior designer to replace the entire scheme with a tailored combination of LED linear lights and track spotlights, ensuring visual comfort and functional performance across both the supermarket and café areas.

01 Lighting design

Custom 3500K Lighting Achieves Warmth Without Sacrificing Clarity

Using lighting simulation software, we ensured the new design met brightness standards for supermarkets, while creating a warm and inviting ambience. We also provided custom 3500K colour temperature lighting to soften the visual tone without compromising clarity.

  • 240 m+of opal linear light
  • 150track spotlights
  • 3500Kacross the whole store, CRI 92
General lighting

General lighting to enable visual comfort. It has to be uniform, glare-free and tailored to ceiling type and height.

Integrated lighting

Integrated lighting to illuminate large aisles, refrigerators or counters and make them feel welcoming and abundant.

Accent lighting

Accent lighting to create points of focus, attract attention and create energy against the background of the general illuminance. Accent lighting is achieved through special colour accurate fittings with varying beam angles.

02 Aisles and perimeter

Linear and Track Lighting Replaces Downlights for Supermarket & Café

Continuous opal linear lights run the length of each aisle, some more than 15 metres long, while a second line follows the perimeter of the store and turns each corner seamlessly. Concealed LED strip above the shopfitting completes the scheme, washing the upper walls with soft, even light.

03 Produce and butcher

Accent Lighting for Fresh Food Displays

Above the produce tables, suspended track frames carry Ø95 spotlights with honeycomb louvres and a 24° beam, focusing light on the displays rather than the floor. Around the butcher and chillers, the perimeter linear light keeps the edges of the store bright, even and inviting.

Café & Bakery Lighting

In the café and bakery, dedicated track runs with Ø66 spotlights at a 36° beam highlight the counters, while concealed LED strip beneath the seated bench and along the bakery bulkhead keeps the same 3500K colour temperature as the rest of the store, creating a cohesive and welcoming atmosphere.
