Bespoke Feature Lighting Design

Arcare is one of Australia's leading premium aged care providers, with more than 60 residences across the country. Their design teams approach each centre with a clear brief: create spaces that feel genuinely considered, not institutional, and where the quality of the environment contributes directly to the wellbeing of the people living in it.

Lucretia has collaborated with designers across multiple Arcare centres to develop bespoke pendant lighting for each residence. In every case, the process began with the design intent of the specific space, and the fitting was resolved from there: its form, scale, finish, and light output all arrived at through close dialogue with the designer rather than selected from a catalogue.

Arcare Lysterfield

The Lysterfield centre features three custom pendant pieces from Lucretia, each designed for a different space and a different purpose within the residence.

In the entrance foyer, the Couro e Cristal Void pendant occupies the full height of a double-storey void: a cascading composition of illuminated rings that diminish in scale as they descend, drawing the eye upward and giving the arrival experience an immediate sense of occasion. Fabricated to the designer's specification and scaled precisely to the proportions of the void, it is a piece that sets the tone for the centre from the moment a visitor steps inside.

The private dining room is anchored by the Couro e Cristal Oval pendant: a single ring of warm crystal and brass suspended above the stone dining table. Its circular form and warm gold finish bring a sense of intimacy and refinement to a space designed for residents and their families to share a meal together, and its scale was resolved in close collaboration with the designer to sit correctly within the proportions of the room.

In the café area, the Pedra de Cristal horizontal linear pendant runs above the servery counter, its elongated form providing both a considered lighting element and a visual boundary between the counter and the dining floor beyond. Against the warm tones of the caramel upholstery and brass table hardware throughout the room, it holds its own as part of a coherent interior palette without overpowering the space.

Arcare Ringwood

The centrepiece of Arcare Ringwood is one of the most ambitious bespoke installations Lucretia has delivered: a large-scale custom BubbleGlow pendant filling the full ceiling plane of the main lounge and reception area with hundreds of individually suspended glass spheres in clear and amber gold.

The designer's brief called for a piece that would define the character of the entire ground floor from the moment a visitor arrives. Fabricated to specification, the installation spans the recessed ceiling coffer above the lounge and cascades down into the double-height glazed entrance void, where the spheres read against the sky and garden beyond. The mix of clear and amber glass was resolved in collaboration with the designer to complement the warm travertine, stone, and timber palette of the interior without repeating it literally. Seen from below, the spheres catch and scatter light across the ceiling in a way that shifts with the time of day, giving the space a quality that feels alive rather than static.

At this scale, the execution demands precise planning of every suspension point, sphere placement, and wiring route before a single element goes into the ceiling. Lucretia worked from the designer's specification to fabricate and install the full installation to the dimensions and density the design required.

Arcare Aranda

The Aranda centre features four distinct pendant pieces across its communal spaces, each resolved to the specific character of the room it occupies.

The entrance foyer is defined by a composition of Cocoon Leaf pendants suspended through the full height of the double-storey void. Their large, organic leaf forms in soft diffused polymer float at varying heights and angles above the lounge below, catching the light from the full-height glazing behind them. Seen from above, the composition reads almost like a canopy; from the ground floor, it gives the arrival space a sense of calm and natural presence that sets the tone for the entire centre.

In the café and dining area, the Alba Lux pendant brings a quieter refinement. Crafted from genuine alabaster, its warm, translucent glow complements the timber slat ceiling and marble bench surfaces of the café, providing a soft ambient light over the dining floor that feels genuinely residential rather than institutional. The Seed pendant, positioned above the café servery counter, adds a contrasting material moment: its bronze brass framework and Swedish crystal detailing introduce a jewellery-like quality against the warm timber joinery, marking the counter as a considered focal point within the space.

The private dining room is anchored by a cluster of Kyoto Cocoon pendants suspended at varying heights above the dining table. Their Japanese lantern-inspired polymer forms in soft white provide warm, diffused light over the table while sitting comfortably against the full-height timber wall panelling behind them. Grouped together, they create a sense of intimacy and occasion appropriate to a room designed for residents to share a meal with family.

Arcare Croydon

The Croydon centre features four pendant pieces across three communal spaces, ranging from catalogue products specified for particular rooms through to fully bespoke pieces designed and fabricated by Lucretia from the ground up.

The entrance foyer is the most ambitious installation in this centre. The designer's brief called for a large-scale chandelier to fill the double-height void above the reception desk, and the piece that resulted does not exist in any catalogue. Lucretia developed it entirely from the designer's requirements: a sweeping sculptural canopy in brushed gold from which hundreds of individual acrylic blade elements cascade downward in a flowing, wave-like formation. The composition fills the full void with both visual weight and a sense of lightness simultaneously, its blades catching and diffracting light as they descend. It is the kind of piece that is only possible when the fabricator starts from nothing and builds to a specific vision rather than adapting an existing product.

In the private dining room, the Aurora Divina Custom Twist pendant provides a quieter but equally considered focal point above the oval dining table. Its stainless steel and German acrylic construction, finished in brushed gold, brings a sculptural quality to the room that complements the forest-green velvet seating and patterned carpet without competing with them. The twist form reads differently from every angle, giving the pendant a presence that holds across the proportions of the room.

The café is anchored by the Normandie 650, an Art Deco-informed pendant in brass and hand-blown glass with a silk fabric shade. Its warm, rounded form sits comfortably above the timber and marble café space, its champagne gold finish drawing a thread through to the brass detailing visible elsewhere in the interior palette. At this scale it provides both a decorative statement and warm, diffused light over the dining floor below.

Arcare Clyde

The Clyde centre features a single pendant installation that defines the entire character of the entrance foyer: a custom Crystal Capsule Void pendant, scaled and configured to fill the full height of the double-storey void above the reception desk and lounge.

The standard Crystal Capsule Void is already a striking piece. What the designer specified for Clyde was a custom configuration: a large circular canopy from which individual capsule elements in brushed nickel and smoky grey crystal cascade at varying suspension lengths, filling the void with a composition that reads as both dense and airy at the same time. The capsules descend at different heights, creating a sense of movement and depth that shifts as you move through the space. Against the warm vertical timber slat wall behind the reception desk and the full-height glazing on the opposite side, the dark finish of the capsules holds the piece clearly visible in a room flooded with natural light, without needing to compete with the warmth of the interior palette below.

At the scale required for a double-height commercial void, the configuration of suspension lengths and the positioning of each capsule element within the overall composition was resolved to the designer's specification, producing an installation that feels purposeful rather than incidental in the space it occupies.

Arcare Wright

The Wright centre foyer is defined by a single installation that stops visitors at the entrance: a custom multi-drop configuration of the Selene pendant, assembled at a scale and density that transforms an individual fitting into an architectural moment.

The Selene is a pendant built around optical-grade acrylic that refracts light from its built-in LEDs, producing a warm, halo-like glow within each individual element. Its polished brass collar and restrained proportions give it a refined quality that works as a single piece. For Wright, the designer's brief called for something altogether different in scale: a large circular brushed gold canopy from which dozens of individual Selene elements cascade at varying suspension lengths through the full height of the double-storey void. Each capsule glows independently, and the composition they form together reads as a single luminous cloud suspended above the marble entry table below.

The close-up photographs show what makes this installation particularly considered: seen from above, each Selene element reveals its individual detail clearly, the ribbed acrylic body and brass collar catching light precisely. From the floor of the foyer, the collective effect is one of warmth and abundance. The custom configuration required careful resolution of suspension lengths and element positioning within the canopy to produce a composition that feels deliberately arranged at every height through the void, rather than simply filled.

Arcare Werribee

The Wright centre foyer is defined by a single installation that stops visitors at the entrance: a custom multi-drop configuration of the Selene pendant, assembled at a scale and density that transforms an individual fitting into an architectural moment.

Two bespoke Sereno Twist Alabaster pendants were specified for this space, suspended from the pitched timber ceiling on leather straps with brass hardware. The Sereno is handcrafted from authentic Spanish alabaster, a natural stone that transmits light rather than simply reflecting it, producing a warm, softly glowing quality that no manufactured material can replicate. Each piece features the unique veining and tonal variation inherent to natural stone, making both pendants distinct objects in their own right.

The two pendants are arranged in a staggered composition above the reception area: a larger multi-ring grouping and a smaller companion piece, positioned so that the installation feels found rather than placed. Against the warm grain of the timber ceiling and the textured irregularity of the stone columns, the alabaster's organic quality reads as entirely at home. It is a pairing of materials and forms that gives the Werribee foyer a warmth and groundedness that perfectly suits the character of the centre and the landscape visible through the glazed entrance behind it.

Project Conclusion

Across the Arcare centres featured here, each bespoke pendant was fabricated to the designer's specification. The vision belonged to the design team. Lucretia's contribution was the capability and precision to make it real.

For designers working on projects where the lighting design is resolved and the execution needs to match it exactly, that is precisely what we do. If you have a piece that needs to be built rather than bought, we would welcome the conversation.
