Commercial Project

Project Scope:
Bespoke Lighting Solution

Located within Melbourne’s Federation Square, Good Nature required a custom outdoor light that would feel distinctive to the venue while remaining connected to its architectural surroundings.

From Drawing to Finished Fixture

The project began when the builder approached us with drawings for a bespoke light. Working closely from the supplied design, we developed and manufactured the fixture with careful attention to its proportions, geometry and overall character.

The completed light combines an angular metal frame with a softly illuminated globe. Repeated throughout the outdoor dining areas, the fixtures create a consistent visual rhythm while adding warmth to the space after dark.

A Finish Made for the Site

The silver finish was developed specifically for this project. Rather than selecting a standard colour, we matched it to the existing steel elements found throughout Federation Square.

This detail allows the lights to sit naturally within the site’s established material palette. They remain recognisable as part of Good Nature, without appearing disconnected from the surrounding architecture.

Designed for Outdoor Conditions

Because the fixtures were installed in an exposed outdoor environment, wind conditions were also considered during development. We reinforced key structural areas to improve stability while preserving the intended shape and clean profile of the original design.
The modifications are largely invisible, but they are an important part of ensuring the lights perform reliably in their setting.

This project reflects our approach to custom lighting. Reproducing a drawing is only one part of the process; materials, finishes, structural requirements and installation conditions must also be resolved together.

Through coordination with the builder, we translated the supplied concept into a fixture that was accurate to the design and practical for its location. The result demonstrates how thoughtful manufacturing and site-specific detailing can bring a custom lighting idea into the built environment, without compromising its original intent.
