Lighting design, decorative lighting supply, and architectural lighting supply

Lucretia was engaged to deliver the complete lighting package for a new luxury residence in Doncaster: lighting design consultation, decorative lighting, and architectural lighting across the entire home. The brief was to create a lighting scheme that would work with the scale and proportions of the home, particularly the double-height void, while maintaining a cohesive design language from room to room.

The Entrance

The entrance sets the tone for the entire home. A bespoke Pharaoh Chandelier is suspended through the double-height entry void above the front door, with multiple graduated crystal rings descending from the upper ceiling. The rings diminish in diameter as they drop, filling the vertical space and creating an immediate visual impact from the moment the front door opens. Viewed from the upper level, the chandelier reads as a sculptural centrepiece; from the ground floor, it draws the eye upward and establishes the scale of the home.

The Void and Living Areas

The centrepiece of the home is a double-height void above the dining area, flanked by narrow clerestory windows. Lucretia specified a custom multi-drop Selene chandelier for this space, suspended from the upper ceiling with individual pendants staggered at varying heights to fill the vertical volume. Each pendant is crafted from German-imported optical acrylic, and the configuration was customised to suit the specific proportions of the void rather than using a standard drop count.

The chandelier serves a practical purpose as well as a visual one. In a double-height space, a single ceiling-mounted fitting would sit too far from the dining table to provide useful light. The staggered drops bring the light source down into the space where it is needed, while the upper pendants draw the eye upward and make the full height of the void read clearly at night.

The kitchen uses a Selene Horizontal 4 linear pendant above the island, maintaining the Selene design language while switching to a horizontal format suited to the long island benchtop. Under-cabinet LED strip lighting illuminates the marble splashback and work surfaces. In the adjacent living areas, recessed downlights provide even ambient coverage, with LED strip lighting integrated into the display shelving and joinery to add depth and highlight the cabinetry detailing.

The butler's pantry received the same under-cabinet LED treatment as the main kitchen, ensuring consistent task lighting quality across both workspaces.

Bedrooms

In the master bedroom, a pair of Selene Single pendants were suspended on either side of the bed, replacing conventional bedside table lamps. This carried the Selene design language from the ground floor through to the private spaces upstairs, while freeing up the bedside tables and giving the room a more resolved, hotel-suite quality. Recessed downlights handle the ambient layer, and the ensuite and walk-in robe are visible through openings that allow light to flow between the spaces.

Secondary bedrooms used recessed downlights for clean, even illumination.

Bathrooms and Exterior

Bathroom lighting was kept simple, with recessed downlights positioned to provide even coverage across the vanity and wet areas.
Externally, wall-mounted up/down lights were installed across the rear facade to provide ambient lighting around the pool and entertaining areas, ensuring the home reads as well from the outside at night as it does from within.

By handling both the decorative and architectural lighting from a single source, Lucretia was able to deliver a cohesive result where every fitting works together in colour temperature, finish, and design intent. The Selene series provided the decorative thread running through the home, from the custom void chandelier through to the kitchen pendant and bedroom pendants, while the architectural lighting handled the functional requirements without competing for attention.
